A six-week Summer School for Korean Studies offered by Sogang University provides international students with a unique opportunity to achieve a better understanding of the various aspects of Korean culture. All participants will have a chance to learn about traditional and current Korean life-styles, including treatments of the historical and religious background, political tensions with North Korea, economic issues etc. Field experiences are the highlights of this program; including one 3 day field trip, four cultural fieldworks, and many other extracurricular activities.

Curriculum
The Summer School offers ten 3-credit courses: "Topics in Korean Traditions: History, Religion, and Literature", "Topics in Korea Today: Politics, Economy, and Society", "History of Korea in the 20th Century", "Religion and Culture in Modern Korea", "Social Change and Movements in Contemporary Korea", "History of Pre-modern Korea: from Ancient Kingdoms to Chosun Dynasty", "A Survey of Korean Literature", "Politics of the Korean Peninsular: Foreign and Inter-Korean(North-South) Relations", "Wonders of Korean Economy, 1950-2000", "International Marketing in Korea". All courses are taught in English, and an intensive course in the Korean Language is taught at 6 levels based on the student's background. Each of the two Survey courses consists of 36 classes and 36 fieldwork hours (equivalent to 12 class hours) during the six week term. The Korean Language course consists of 72 class hours and 36 fieldwork hours for the same period. In addition, students of each course will participate in a 3 day field trip of the most prominent cultural heritage sites in Korea.
