  Scholarship


    1) Scholarship within GSIS  

                 
Sogang GSIS realizes the fact that tuition is a large concern for many students. This is the reason that we have the highest percentage of scholarships offered amongst Korean GSIS programs.
All GSIS students who meet certain academic standards are entitled to a tuition scholarship.
Our GSIS offers scholarships of 25% to 100% of the tuition fees to all new students for the first semester according to their performance in the admission process. From the 2nd semester, one of the scholarships(25%, 50%, 75%, 100% of the tuition) is granted based on the GPA of the previous semester to every student who acquires 9 credits or the above and who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5(4.0 for Ph.D. Program) on a scale of 4.3. For the GSIS scholarship, students who did not graduate from the university in the English speaking countries are required to submit the official English test result like TOEIC, TOEFL, TEPS, or IELTS with the certain required score during their first year at Sogang GSIS. Students can apply for TA or RA from the 2nd semester for the additional scholarship. There can be also various opportunities for GSIS students to get the additional scholarships from other institutes or companies such as DAEYANG SHIPPING Co., LTD, AMPELOS ENTERPRISE Co., LTD, etc. after the admission.

*The scholarship rules may be applied differently for the Ph.D. students.

       2) Scholarships provided by private companies and institutions

                 
GSIS has engaged with domestic firms which advanced abroad. We offer scholarships and living expenses to international students according to their nations which those firms have advanced.
We have been continuously trying to expand scholarship programs and give chances to as many students as possible.

◈ What is Posco Asia Fellowship?
This is a fellowship program for inviting promising Asian youth to Korea in order for them to enjoy opportunities to study and experience Korea's society, culture, and economic development.

 *How many recipients are selected ?    4  students for every fall semester
The POSCO TJ  Park Foundation offers scholarships to 4 Asian students every year who seek a master's degree at the GSIS, Sogang University.
 
 *What are the terms of scholarship?
   - Full tuition grant for 2 years
   - Stipend for 2 years: Almost $900 with current exchange rate per every month
 
 * Student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.3 each semester to maintain scholarship eligibility and write a thesis for Master Degree in last semester   

◈ What are the activities for scholarship recipients?    
   1) Participation in a field trip or a round table conference twice a year prepared by the Foundation, if any.
   2) A copy of your master’s thesis.
   3) For getting tuition for last semester, students should submit a report on your activities in Korea in the third semester.

This is a Global fellowship program for inviting promising youth to Korea in order for them to enjoy opportunities to study and experience Korea's society, culture, and economic development.

Eligibility and Conditions

 * How many recipients are selected? 1 student for every fall semester

 * What are the terms of scholarship?
-Full tuition grant for 2 years
-Stipend for 2 years : Almost KRW 1,000,000 with current exchange rate per every month

 * Student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.3 scale in order to retain their scholarship. If they fail this requirement at any time, their scholarship will be cancelled and they will be ineligible to receive it again in further semesters.

 * Application to Foreign student

    3) Korean Government Scholarship Program

     The NIIED (National Institute for International Education; Korean governmental institute) invites foreign students every year for Korean Government Scholarship Program(KGSP). The KGSP is a full-scholarship program included living cost and has a lot of benefits. Sogang GSIS has eighteen Korean Government Scholarship Students selected by the NIIED.

By NIIED’s new policy, students can apply for KGSP to Sogang University directly from 2011, and then Sogang university recommends fifteen candidates to the NIIED. The final decision is made by the NIIED.

 * The duration of KGS
o Master’s : 3 yrs. (01.09.2011 ~ 31.08.2014) - 1 yr. of Korean language + 2 yrs. of Master’s
o Doctoral : 4 yrs. (01.09.2011 ~ 31.08.2015) - 1 yr. of Korean language + 3 yrs of Doctoral




  



Support learning Korean for international students

     International students of GSIS benefit 65~70% of the tuition fee for learning Korean at Korean Language Education center of Sogang. 50% of the tuition fee is discounted by KLEC and 15~20% is supported by GSIS, and supports from GSIS will be given to around 20 foreign students every year.
